baby shower

Last weekend I hosted a baby shower for my darling friend Ashley.  I wanted to make some decorations that weren’t too expensive and I really wanted to do something with fringe, tassels, and a few large balloons (who doesn’t?!).   She’s not a ‘pink’ kind of gal, so the colors I chose were peach, gray, white, and aqua.

I enlisted the advice of craft Guru and friend Alison.  She even was nice enough to come over and help me for an hour (how lucky am I!).  She brought along her ‘assistant’ Gigi and together we cut fringe banners and strips for tassels out of plastic tableclothes.

Gigi got really excited about all the strips and modeled them for us (isn’t she the cutest?).

I made a fringe banner out of each color and taped them to a sturdy piece of twine that I then tied to either end of the pergola.

I also made a few gifts for baby Isla:  a red polka dot skirt, a mushroom hair clip holder (tutorial coming soon), and mint condition thrifted sandals that I attached flowers onto.

It was such a lovely afternoon. The decorations turned out how I wanted them to, the weather was perfect, and even more importantly the company was fabulous.

The large balloons with the tassels really made a statement.  To make them I tied twine to the end of the balloons and glued the tassels onto the twine alternating the colors.  By attaching the tassels onto the twine instead of the balloon you can reuse everything when the balloon dies (Alison’s brilliant idea, she has lots of them).  If you would like to see the tutorial on how we made the banners and tassels click here and Alison will show you how.

Love the colors!! So fun and happy. *happy tip if you use the twine to tie the balloons instead of knotting the balloons you can reuse those too! well at least once ;)
